Audirvana is a computer audio system. Roon is a network audio system that can function as computer audio, albeit poorly. I enjoyed your review, but I wish you had provided more detail on how you set up Roon and compared an optimal Audirvana configuration to an optimal Roon installation. That would have put them on more even footing regarding sound quality.

You were spot on about other differences. I also use a macbook for the core, streaming to a pi with a hat. Everything is just better and more focused with Audirvana. I am open to most things mattering, but I find it to be strange if thats better. I get a suspicion Roon detects if it runs on their own hardward. Very interesting. Sometimes good things are hidden from our view. Not sure. With the Focal Utopia this is achieved playfully easy.

I have tried Audirvana Plus with the free trial, but really don’t see what the big deal is or why I should get Roon.

Second, the time counter displayed under the artwork on the right side of the screen is malfunctioning. At first, it did not appear at all. After I audirvana 2. Hello, Andreas, Thanks for your reply. There are mistakes in these devices also, and they are machines that need maintenance and training on hours a week. Audirvana Plus, an audiophile music player for the Mac, has now been released for Windows. This does not matter in most circumstances, but if you want the best possible sound and spend money on high-res downloads or streaming, for example, you want bit-perfect sound.

This perhaps is a good reason not to play music directly from a PC or Mac; but the counter-argument is that using your existing computer reduces the box-count and expense of streaming, and that the flexibility and processing power of desktop computer is handy too.

So what does Audirvana offer? The Windows version is still to some extent work in progress and not yet as full-featured as the Mac version; however the developers are promising to add the missing pieces later.
